The nisBOERE Carnivorous Plants Combo is a great combo to introduce yourself to the wonderful word of Carnivorous Plants. These plants are sure to spark your curiosity and apart from looking completely unique, they also lure, catch and eat insects.
Included in the combo are the following plants:
- A sticky sundew, which catches insects with its sticky leaves, and then curl around the insect to absorb all of its nutrients.
- A snapping Venus flytrap. The Venus flytrap is considered one of the only plants in nature that can count as it has small trigger hairs inside the trap which allows the plant to count. Once triggered it snaps shut and enjoys the insect which it has caught.
- A beautiful tropical pitcher plant also known as a Nepenthes. This plant produces amazing cup like traps which lure the insects to the inside of the lid with a sweet-smelling nectar. Once the insect eats of the nectar, it is paralysed, and it falls into the trap where all the nutrients are absorbed.
Each plant comes in a 10cm square pot.
Care Instructions for the plants are really simple and easy to follow, we also include care instructions on each of the pots.
Care instructions for the Sundews and Venus Flytrap:
- Light, these plants require a minimum of 4 hours of direct sunlight. Preferably 6 to 8 hours of morning sun is ideal.
- Water, ¼ to ½ of the pot must always stand in water. Use the tray method and don’t top water as that washes off the dew(mucilage) of the sundew. Do not mist the sundew, it will produce its own dew. Only use Oasis or Rainwater.
- Soil, the plants already come in the right soil. If you want to repot, please use our ProCp Mix, regular potting soils contain fertiliser which will kill your plant. Do Not Fertilise.
- The Venus Flytrap goes dormant in winter, thereafter it produces a flower stalk in spring, cut the flower stalk when it is 2.5cm long otherwise it can kill your plant.
Care instructions for the Nepenthes:
- Water: top water your plant until the water flows out of the pot into a shallow saucer, do this 3 to 4 times a week. These plants may not stand in water! Only use oasis or rainwater.
- Light: nepenthes require a minimum of 4 to 6 hours of direct morning sunlight, and bright indirect light the rest of the day.
- Soil: only use our ProCp mix when repotting your plant. Normal garden soil contains fertiliser and nutrients which will kill your plant. Do not fertilise!
